Perhaps this playing demonstrates why Step Up is so rarely played... Thanks to the bailout rule, a stage player can choose to walk away from it with a decent haul (in this case, over $5,000 of goodies) even if they don't win, just so long as they don't blunder into the most expensive prize as their first pick.

Brett demonstrates both the art and the danger of finesse spins. They're great when they work, as his regular spin did, but when they don't they can bite you where it hurts, as his Bonus Spin fail (our first in quite some time) did. It also demonstrates that, even going into his fifth season as host, there are still some technical details that elude Drew's grasp, such as what to do when a Bonus Spin fails in a Spin-Off situation (though to be fair, that is a blue-moon occurrence at best -- and even Bob was known to be forgetful on this point).

Jack Buck Memorial "I Don't Believe What I Just Saw!" Award: Goes to our new Rowbird, Darren, for wearing... I kid you not... a PROFESSOR PRICE T-shirt! I barely know what to say about this. He's either an insane LFaT, or he latched onto what he thought was a fandom meme.

Either way, that animatronic refugee from an LSD trip was the last thing I expected to see today. I don't know whether to mark out or be very, very afraid.

Is this gonna be the new "thing" for Rangey? This is like three playings in a row where it's been down that far on the scale.

For the record, Professor Price may have been the most spectacular failure in Pricing Game history, but it was a failure with a perfect track record; it was not lost in either of the two playings it ever had. Not that this is doing Darren any good today... though he does have the last-bid advantage in this final spot...

...and whaddya know?

Drew does, by the way, confirm that the good Professor only appeared twice before they (mercifully) pulled the plug on his game. The first of the two playings aired on GSN back in the day (it's generally believed the other one was Barkembargoed), and you may watch the full segment, with Contestant's Row spot, here if you so desire. Many of you have probably seen it already in one form or another. Those of you that haven't... let's just say you're in for an experience.

Meanwhile, in the here and now, Darren's playing 1 Right Price: $5247

An evil, evil setup... but how could Darren lose when he had a Ph. D. on his side? ;^)

(Interesting to note here: With the exception of Side by Side and its hard-coded four-digit maximum payout, every Pricing Game today offered at least $10,000 to its players. Outside of special episodes, such as the 6,000th show where every game was played for at least one car, I can't recall offhand the last time I saw this.)
