TPiRecap: 17 June 2013 (Wedding Shower Spectacular)

And we begin our last week of bona fide first-run shows of Season 41 with... yet another spectacular!

Episode # 6401K (Wedding Shower Spectacular)
Airdate 17 June 2013
VTR 1 May 2013
First Four Hawken & Ari, Anthony & Stephanie, Bryana & Justin, Liza Elaine & Jay (Random)
Today's Models Manuela Abreález, Daniel Goddard, Amber Lancaster, Gwendolyn Osborne-Smith

All contestants today are engaged couples, natch. Pairs will be listed in the order that George calls their names.

Let's just hope this goes better that that Father's Day special did on Friday... hey, it can scarcely be worse, right?

Interesting to note that instead of the revised Barker Wall, the backdrop for Drew's entrance through Door #2 features silhouettes of wedding iconography.

Switch?:

  2. Bachelorette party in New York, NY (for 4, 3n, Distrikt Hotel, night on the town; AL)

Amusingly, the "?" icons on the props are replaced by wedding rings today...

My gut instinct is to leave them alone.

Now we know why we've been in Budget Mode for the last month or so... they've been saving it all for this episode! We're already over $24,000 on the prize budget today and we haven't even seen our first car yet!

...Better make that $124,000, because I see the little green $ on the stage -- the telltale sign of an incoming Pay the Rent Wedding house, appropriately decorated:

(DG carries MA over the threshold, while AL shows off the following:)
  • Pillsbury Grands! biscuits
  • Easy-Off oven cleaner (they still make this?)
  • Blue Bonnet margarine
  • Crystal Light drink mix
  • Smucker's Goober Grape peanut butter & jelly spread
  • Ivory body wash (no longer quite 99.44% pure, I'm sure...)

I'm thinking...

Mailbox: Body wash
1st Floor: Margarine & Drink mix
2nd Floor: Spread & biscuits
Attic: Cleaner

$6.28

Folks, I'm feeling this now. Seriously. I have the same feeling I had a couple months back with Ani at this stage. I'm almost positive that oven cleaner is more than $6.28, and thus Erin & Kyle have this puzzle solved.

All they need now is the courage of their convictions to soldier on...

Spread
$3.99
Body wash
$2.29
$10,000
$6.28
Go on...

Ohh boy... I'm literally shaking at this point. After two and a half years of frustration, could we see lightning strike twice in the same season?

Everything that can be crossed is being crossed...

...and...

Body wash

HEARTBREAKER

Aww, man. I was sure of it, too. >_< That hurt.

Solution:
Mailbox: Spread = $3.99
1st Floor: Biscuits ($2.59) + Body wash ($2.29) = $4.88
2nd Floor: Drink mix ($3.49) + Margarine ($1.59) = $5.08
Attic: Cleaner = $5.49

Only the one solution.  (A previous version of this recap stated there was a second, but I belatedly realized that was due to a typo in one of the prices.  This was, indeed, the only combination that would've worked this time.)

I feel like this show just trolled me.

After about a twenty-five minute break for fresh coffee and to sweep up the shattered fragments of my hopes, we shall now continue...

That was my pick. Oh well.

Let's think about this. We know it won't be 17 or 19, and we can pretty much safely rule out 90 on the grounds that it's practically never behind the highest number on the board. (Having said that, you watch -- that's magically where it'll appear today. I can't win. 9_9) That leaves 27, 68, and 35 as possibilities -- a two-out-of-three chance.

Provided Mike isn't evil today.

...And how about that, they actually put the back of the car behind Rose Marie when she isn't displaying the current season. Ugh.

Well, it's certainly not gonna be as good as last year's Wedding Shower show turned out...

Managed to reduce it to just one couple. That's progress, at least.

Hawken and Ari both work for the same advertising agency, and according to Drew, nobody at their office knows they're engaged. Until now, that is. ^^;

Drew also informs us that "this is one of the craziest prizes we've ever offered," and it's not something they'd normally do -- but for the wedding shower show, why not?

This is what Hawken and Ari can win in Cliff Hangers:
Trip to Aruba (for TWENTY-TWO!!!, 3n, Divi Aruba Phoenix, a dream wedding on an island beachfront; $47,017; DG, MA)

No typo, folks. The complete wedding of a lifetime, forty-seven grand and change... and it's in one of the most frequently-won games on the roster today.

Ohh, please don't screw this one up...

Oh, by the way, there's a special discount (up to 30%) for those of you looking to book your own little vacation -- all you have to do is follow @PriceIsRight on Twitter.

(GOS with the little things that can add up to big numbers)
  • Stainless steel cake knife & server
  • 9" unity candle w/pair of taper candles
  • Silver-plated Blankety Blank chequebook wedding guestbook & pen

Hans looks resplendent in his formalwear leiderhosen, but those are some pretty oddball SPs. Not to worry, however; I'm sure the Threshold still applies.
