TPiRecap: 21 June 2013

And so we come to this, the final regularly-scheduled, first-run episode of Season 41. On Monday at least, we begin the process of make-goods from earlier pre-emptions, and after that we have some summertime specials to look forward to, including the now-annual Fourth of July and Back to School Spectaculars. But for most practical purposes, this is where the Season 41 gravy train gets off.

It's been an interesting year, to say the least. We've seen Price break with over four decades of tradition and introduce the first permanent male model the show has ever seen, Rob Wilson. We've seen Pay the Rent won for the very first time, and the contestant who pulled off that unprecedented feat rocket straight to #3 all-time on the daytime Price is Right winners' list (and also become the biggest winner, not counting MDS play, of the Drew Carey era). We may not have seen a new Pricing Game debut, but we have seen several old friends (such as Bonus Game and Grand Game) get somewhat modernized, and just yesterday we saw Check Game return to the lineup after a four-year hiatus, complete with its own facelift. We've seen the birth of some new running gags, i.e. Cover Up. We saw the most expensive car ever offered in the history of television game shows, a $280K+ Ferrari. And we saw Drew celebrate his one thousandth episode since taking over Price, which should firmly establish him as his own man and not just the fill-in for Bob Barker.

All in all, an eventful season in Old Thirty-Three. And now, the official first day of summer is also the official last day of Season 41.

I haven't worked out a summertime schedule for this website yet, but I'll be around for next week's make-goods for sure. In the meantime, let's do this...

Even the Peanut Gallery knew this one. $4,573 doesn't even cover the cost of that hot tub by itself, let alone with a massive outdoor TV. The only real options were $8,445 or even $9,126.

I guess it was too much to hope for that the lineup would go easy on me on this last day of the regular season. At least the motorcycle's easy to look up.

I trust nothing anymore. It could be $4,189 for all I know at this point in a season, but my gut is saying $7,320. Let's see what the producers were thinking this time...

That mistake was on me. I didn't even notice that price buried in there... was too busy looking for traps. Almost nothing surprises me anymore. --;

Virgina, Joseph... let's talk. One or both of you is going to be our last visitors to Leftover Island this year, discounting make-ups and specials. But one of you can still avoid this fate. C'mon, guys, don't make me do a double passport stamp today, that'd be such a downer to end on...

I guess Mike wants to at least end the year on a winning note...

  1. According to CBS.com it seems there are maybe three new ones next Monday, Wednesday, and Friday? (Monday definitely looks like it is, given the tapedate.)

    6412 - 06/24/13 taped 05/08/13
    6065 - 06/25/13 taped 07/10/12

  2. Got to be careful with CBS.com, Shel'z, they're quite crappy with updating the schedules at points. They had listed a new episode the day they aired the repeat of the Y&R tribute.

    Anyway...late thoughts, but:

Spelling Bee - Nice to see him overcome the odds and pull the "CAR" out of the batch.

    Freeze Frame - Ugh...

Clock Game - Definitely stumbling there a bit, but caught herself and pulled out the win.

Push Over: I know MR might pull out some surprises, but I really didn't think of ~$4,000 as a possibility. Not even in Budget Mode, sweetheart (The contestant, not you ofc, Devin :p)

More or Less: Should have gotten to the car. Maytag is pricey, but definitely not $3,600+.

Pick-a-Pair: Was nervous about this one more than usual...had a hard time picking myself. But she got the winner.

Showcases: And a big winner to close out the season!
