TPiRecap: 26 June 2013 (Make-Good #2)

More time-warping today, though not nearly as severe as yesterday; we only go back about a month or so from when this was originally supposed to air, if my notes are accurate.

Push Over:
Trip to Jamaica (6n, Jake's Hotel, "various" meals, waterfall visit; MA)

Just to make it clear, since Thomas is from Lawn Guyland -- yes, it's the real Jamaica. Not the one in Queens. ;^)

It's either $7,454 or $9,745, and since it's intentionally never been the first price in line in the entire history of Push Over, that leaves us with...

...I don't know why it is, but I always seem to forget about this one when going over potential center-stage car games in my mind. Weird.

That was almost as bad as it could possibly get. Now the only thing that will save her is if she happened to pick either the 75¢ or $2.00 card; there is no way to reach the required two bucks that doesn't involve at least one of those, and the 75¢ option also requires her to pick at least two of the three 50¢s as well. In other words... it's not looking good.

But, you never know when it comes to games of chance.

Well, how about that? Now things look a bit less bleak -- that last card can be either 50¢, 75¢, or $2.00 for her to win, which makes the odds approximately 1:5.67. Not great, but better than it was looking earlier.

And...

Oh well. Still, it does come close to proving my initial point, "you never know when it comes to games of chance." Sometimes -- not often, obviously, but sometimes -- the long shot actually does come up. And it almost happened here; when I saw those two 50¢ cards I got excited.

One Wrong Price, played on back-to-back days thanks to the vagaries of make-good airdate scheduling:
  1. Sony laptop computer (8GB RAM, 750GB HD; MA)
  2. Kimco Mongoose 90 ATV (GOS)
  3. Maytag Bravos washer & dryer (GOS)

I want to say the computer is overpriced here... but I could be wrong. It is a Sony, after all.

As a reward for escaping Contestant's Row and nearly turbo-hugging Drew through the set, Jacqueline gets to play a fairly easy-looking round of Switch?:
  1. Inspire FT1 home gym (GOS)
  2. Panasonic 65" 3D HDTV w/glasses (MA)

The rule of thumb for TVs on The Price is Right states that their prices will almost always end in 0 or 9. Thus, my knee-jerk reaction is to switch the prices.

...but it avails him not.

(For the very last time -- until the next time I have to say it -- bidding one dollar higher than someone else can be sound strategy, depending on the situation. Bidding one dollar lower than someone else is just plain dumb. Remember, the object is to be the closest to the ARP without going over.)

($23,185)

If you want to know why I said we were in trouble, go back up a few mousewheel clicks and take a look at the upper-left quadrant of the board. Even if Nancy had gotten to that 1, her options from there would have led her to four equally likely car prices: $23,180, $23,185 (which would have been correct), $23,190, or $23,195. If that's not an evil setup, even for this crueler-than-usual game, I don't know what would be...
