TPiRecap: 11 September 2013

Okay, let's talk.

In case you haven't noticed, these summertime make-good airings haven't exactly been going according to plan. In fact, I may as well be honest: They've been awful. I know it wasn't planned (or even aired) this way, but in terms of first-run shows we're sitting on three -- count 'em, three -- consecutive Double Overbids, which is always the critical blow that can knock the life out of any episode.

Today is it for Season 41, the last first-run episode we still had in the can due to a particularly newsworthy early part of 2013 (what with Papal resignations and all), and I really want to go out on as high a note as we possibly can. So please... no more evilness, okay? Let's at least get a Showcase winner out of this, do you think you can at least manage that much?

Let's do this...

What do you know, I could very well be correct about this yet! It's down to a coin-flip, 6 or 3... and I'm sure most of you reading this know my rule of thumb with the tens digit in this game (more often than not, it's the lowest digit in the column)...

(#2: C)

Just when it looked like the whole thing was going down the toilet, Lady Luck decides to finally smile upon us! (Now why she can't do that in a game like Golden Road is beyond me...)

We still have to dodge the DOB curse, of course, but this show is definitely doing a lot better than the other summertime specials have been!

Well, the crowded shuttle has become a private jet... but it's still a flight British doesn't want to make, I'm sure. Luckily she has one last chance to avoid it...

Ordinarily this would've been a good move, but in this case, as cheap as those Honda CRF cycles go for... it was still easily higher than $1,202. This was a case where most peoples' first instincts would have paid off. Alas.

But hey -- we finally got a car win for the first time in a while, that's gotta count for something!

Yes, folks, another one.

And so, technically, Season 41 ends with four consecutive DOBs, counting the Back to School Anything-But-Special. The summer of '13 is more like the bummer of '13 as far as Price is Right make-goods are concerned.

On the other hand, this show wasn't a total loss, as the Leader Board will demonstrate

LEADER BOARD: Episode #6301K

TOTAL WINNINGS
$46,869
34.55% of $135,651 + $1,000 bonus

Median: $7,491

But for the DOB, this would have been a more than decent episode, with back-to-back-to-back-to-back wins (including a car game) and no really insanely evil setups or game choices.

And with that, we are done with Season 41 -- some might say, not a moment too soon either. When next we meet on the 23rd, Season 42 will officially commence... see you then!

1 comment:

  1. Maybe we shouldn't root for people to win their showcases anymore...

Ha, that was just a joke. But hopefully in the season to come there won't be as many double overbids as the last one.
