TPiRecap: 14 October 2013 (Big Money Week #1)

One quick announcement: I am starting to re-create some of the graphical templates I used late last year. For the moment I only have them for two games, Double Cross (which really needs it, IMO) and Do the Math. I may end up doing others in this fashion, but time will tell. The last time I did this it went way overboard, and contributed to severe burnout on my end; I don't want that to happen again. If I do reintroduce graphical stuff, it will be on a limited basis and entirely based on whether or not it makes more sense to do it this way or with the table formatting I've been using to date.

With that out of the way, let's kick off another week in Old Thirty-Three...

Big Money Week #1

(Carrie Keagan comes to us this week from VH-1's Big Morning Buzz.)

...or is it just another week?

Today is the start of Price is Right's second-ever Big Money Week, featuring one game per day with a greatly inflated prize -- to the tune of well over a million bucks for the entire week, in fact. Based on Drew's tease, it seems the Big Money game will be played during the first half of each show.

If you recall, the last time we did this didn't turn out so well -- although we did end up with our first-ever $100,000 winner in Pay the Rent. However, since Pay the Rent is the one Pricing Game that really doesn't need to be upscaled for a stunt like this, it still rang slightly hollow (which is not at all to belittle the accomplishment).

Will we fare better this go-around? Let's find out, starting now!

The rules are the same as always, except that we've added an extra zero to the end of ½ Off's usual top prize.

Maybe it's just me, but those seemed especially easy today, almost as if the producers wanted this one to get down to the straight-up coin flip at the end. But I'm not gonna complain, not with a hundred Gs on the line!

That... could not possibly have gone any better. That is unequivocally THE way you want to kick off a stunt like Big Money Week -- with a perfect win in a game that isn't won very often to begin with, much less perfectly!

Congratulations, Cassidy, from all of us here at TPiRecap Towers!

Well, then! The only drawback now is that the rest of the show is likely to be a major letdown after that! Still, with both car games and the Showcases yet on the table, it's not like we're necessarily playing for peanuts now...

Terrible news if you ask me. Those were the only three numbers I was in any way sure of!

I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict -23 for the ending combo here, now that I study it.

Well, so far I'm on the right track... but now he's down to a 1:4 shot at winning, and with one of the numbers in the mix a 5, I think I know what's about to happen. And it ain't pretty.

Yeah, the Zero-Five-Nine Rule for cars hasn't really applied for years now, but people still fall back on it.

Still, it's hard to find fault in a half where we gave away $100,000.

Wow! Cassidy may just be en route to the greatest Price is Right day ever! She's currently at $102,862 in winnings -- and just to toss this out there, that puts her $44,655 short of the all-time record for the daytime show, established on the Season 35 premiere back in 2006. Depending on how today's Showcases go, that number is theoretically within her grasp... we'll have to wait a little bit, however, to see how it goes.

For now, let's concentrate on the second half...

Well, take a look at it, folks -- you may not see this again any time soon. Terence not only went a perfect 3-for-3 with the GPs in this evil, evil game, but he made the wisest possible choices (IMO) for his freebies. And just like that, he's basically reduced this to a simple coin-flip situation: Is that Corolla an $18,000 car or a $21,000 car?

It literally does not get any better than this for anyone unfortunate enough to draw Stacky as their game. And unfortunately, the coin-flip nature of this choice means it could still go either way depending on exactly where the staff went car shopping.

For myself, however, I'm gonna say that since it's close to a stock Corolla, $18,654 seems more believable than $21,654. But, it is Toyota, so you never quite know.

For Terence's part, this is what he does...

Almost, but not quite. Vicky-Ann is still the winnings leader for the canonical daytime series, at $147,517... but Cassidy now takes second place on the all-time list, and a close second at that -- just $7,281 separating them.

Bah, who cares? Cassidy is one of the biggest winners of all time -- celebrate! You've earned it!

The scary thing is, this is just Day #1 of the stunt! Who knows what could happen later this week -- Cassidy and Vicky-Ann could both be eclipsed before we're done here!
