TPiRecap: 18 October 2013 (Big Money Week #5)

Here's where we stand: After four shows and a potential $684,505 of inflated winnings on offer in Big Money Week, we've so far managed to give away "only" $130,000 of it.

Today's the last chance, and all we can do is hope the Plinko Board is in a good mood today.

Let's do this...

I think the ATV is the more expensive prize, so I say to subtract.

Apparenty so does Rhonda, as she also subtracts...

Well, the time has finally come. We claimed over a million dollars this week, but as you saw in my preamble, we're considerably short of the mark.

Half-Million Dollar Plinko to the rescue!

It's played the same as always, but with one extra zero in the big-money slot.

Ohh, please, board, be in a generous mood today... the week is riding on this! Drew plays it up nicely, reminding us that people drop one or even two chips into the big money slot "all the time"... and he's got a point, too. (Except, of course, for when Plinko's on a cold streak, like it's been for most of the past calendar year.)

Note, if you will, that Clara has a little mishap with her lav mic on her way to center stage. I guess we're about to finally figure out if Drew's wireless actually works or if it's just a prop. ^^;

But still, four chips... not bad at all under even normal circumstances these days.

We've all got our everythings crossed over here at the Towers, as Rachel passes the chips over to Clora and she ascends to the top...

As the cookie makers say... "Chips ahoy!"

To call that "better" is like saying it's better to have a filling done than a root canal -- they're neither of them pleasant experiences. C'mon, Ebenezer, loosen the pursestrings a little!

Well, I asked for a "little," and a "little" is pretty much what I got.

This is our last chance this week to give away six figures. Come on, Clora! You can do this!

She drops her last chip between the I and the N...

...it immediately bounces over to the left side...

...teases re-entering the center about halfway down...

...but in the end, just doesn't make it.

CRUSHED

And that's how the second Big Money Week wraps up... out of a potential $1,184,505, we only awarded $132,000 of it... a mere 11.14%.

Second attempt, second overall disappointment. OTOH, we still had our $100K winner in ½ Off, and discovered a fun new way to play Cliff Hangers that I hope we actually see again at some point. And hey, you can't fault Mike on this one -- all the Big Money games this time were winnable ones, or were at least (for the most part) beyond manipulation.

It's either $21,300 or $22,645 from where I'm sitting, and since it's mostly a stock Camry I'm leaning towards the cheaper option.

Of course, this usually means the stage player picks the cheapest price right off the bat and blows it on the first pick...

  1. Concerning the Do the Math graphics, part of me thinks you should include the "or" in between the operation signs like as done on the show, while another part thinks it's fine as is since that's how actual written math problems show the plus/minus choice.
    I'll be fine either way, since it's ultimately trivial.
    Here's hoping once Balance Game shows up, you can bring back your graphics for that. I really want to see if you CAN make the scale imbalanced either way for a loss! (Slight masochism there, I know...)

    1. Oh, I can... I can. But you'll just have to take my word for it. And thanks for reminding me of another game I can easily convert to that format. ^^;

  2. I know it's up to you, but I wish you would bring back the graphic stuff for the Showcase Showdown. I think it's pretty funny when that "BOO!" shows up.

  3. You know why people won't take the buyout? Because they're (expletive deleted) greedy. That's why.
