Well, there's no mystery about what today's Dream Car game is -- not when we kick off with Golden Road:
  1. Samsung 32" LED Smart HDTV (RR)
  2. Aquacat 12.5 12' catamaran (HK)
  3. Today's Dream Car is... a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL550 convertible (Premium One pkg, sports wheel pkg, analog clock, wood & leather steering wheel, illuminated door sills, soft-close doors, and PYRO!!!; over $114,000; RR)

We pulled it off yesterday on a lay-up, but this is a much trickier shot. A gentle reminder of Golden Road's record in the Carey Administration: It's terrible.

Fingers crossed...

DISASTER

...

...I... don't even know what to say. I don't quite trust myself to say what's on my mind... not on a website ostensibly rated TV-PG, anyway.

I cannot for the life of me even remember the last time someone failed to get off the first prize -- which is almost always a "gimme" -- in Golden Road. "Epic facepalm" just doesn't quite cut it. In Bryce's defense, however, I actually did see exactly that TV in a store today for about $400, so I can at least understand where he was coming from with that... but even so.

I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, though, when I saw the "35¢" tag for the gum. That harkens back to the Bad Old Days of Golden Road's infancy, where three-digit prizes were still desirable on their own and were thus considerably more difficult to win than they are today.

Arrrrgh! Let's just move on and try to cope with this...

On a normal day, I'd say that the only logical choice is $9,470.

WIN

After an absolute rock-bottom first half, where if you take away Contestant's Row winnings we've won a grand total of nada, the only place to go from here is up... so let's head in that direction now!

On the plus side, at least Leftover Island is empty so far this week... And hey, Jesse's a Connecticut guy! Now I really am rooting for him! ^^;

Bullseye:
Ashley kindling bedroom group (Beautyrest Comfor-Pedic Q) & pair of Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9" tablets ($4,547; RR)

Not one, but two stage prizes valued under $5,000. I think I know where they made up the budget to squeeze that Mercedes in earlier.
  • The Original Pine Bros. Softish throat drops
  • Kleenex disposable hand towels (60)
  • Perrier sparkling mineral water
  • Maybelline FITme! blush compact
  • Francesco Rinaldi pasta sauce

Easy win: Five pasta sauces ($2.29 × 5 = $11.45).

  2. Jimmy Choo designer accessories (HK)

I suspect the accessories this time, since my instincts tell me $2,345 is too pat a price for the computer... so naturally, in keeping with recent trends around here, I'm going against my instincts and saying it's the computer price.

Sidney, apparently, does not share my misgivings about that price. I hope she's right.
