TPiRecap: 21 November 2013 (Dream Car Week #4)

We're three (about to be four) shows deep into Dream Car Week. Let's briefly recap.

On Monday, we had an absolute heartbreaker of a Temptation loss, as Josephine took the sure thing of just under four thousand bucks in gifts... and it was revealed that had she gone on, she would have had a $97,000 Porsche 911 to her credit as well.

Tuesday made up for this a bit, however, when Hole in One got dealt a ringer: Jason, who actually worked on a golf course, became the first person to ace the pricing portion of this game in forever, and in so doing claimed a BMW worth $87,000.

Yesterday, however, saw Bryce never even get out of the blocks on Golden Road, so we never got to see exactly how much that Mercedes-Benz valued at "over $114,000" was worth.

So... one win, one loss, and one loss-with-an-asterisk. What will happen today?

Only one way to find out.

We kick things off with good ol' Grand Game:

  • Dixie -- not Solo -- plastic party cups (32)
  • Rockstar energy drink (1 can)
  • Kraft Handi-Snacks w/Ritz crackers snack packs (6)
  • Buitoni pesto sauce w/basil
  • Palmolive dishwashing detergent
  • Suave deodorant

A little bit different, having a target price not ending in .00 or .50. It's a low price, too -- one of the lowest I've seen in ages, in fact. Wonder how that'll shake out.

(Plastic cups: $3.59; Pesto: $4.29)

I was reasonably sure the Rockstar, being just a single can instead of the 4-pack we usually see around here, was safe to pick, but then again, you know how Mike Richards & Co. have me always second-guessing myself. Until the moment that flap went down I couldn't be convinced it wasn't a trap. A nice win in a game where wins have become rare!

Edwin, whose shirt claims him to be Drew's long-lost twin, is the lucky(?) person who gets to play today's Dream Car Game -- which just so happens to be Lucky $even:

I'm getting excited now -- but hold on! It's not a guarantee yet! Remember, he needs one dollar in hand after that last digit, meaning he only has three to play with; a 5 does not mean an automatic win in this case. (He could call 5 and have it be 1 or 9, and still lose out.

Interesting choice. I might've gone with 6 and given myself one extra digit of leeway (work it out for yourself).

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! If he'd gone with the 6, like I would have -- or even if he'd called the 5 that just about everyone does, without even thinking about it, in this situation -- that would've been a win!

Another heart-wrenchingly close call that turns out poorly for us. 8^/ That sucks.

I'd rage against the machine on this one, but my heart just isn't in it after that.

Gotta be the refrigerator in this setup, I'd think. The computers can't be that much more than $2,000 and I know for fact that fridge is over three grand.

LOSS

The standard strategy in timed games is to not let the clock intimidate you. While this is true, you shouldn't treat the clock like it doesn't exist either, or you run the risk of something like this happening.

After three straight days of all the First Four contestants getting out of the Row by this point, Alisa is the first Rowbird of the week threatened with banishment to Leftover Island. Can she escape ignominy?

As Alisa goes to get her passport photos updated, Jeffrey will play Pathfinder:
2013 Ford Focus SE (2L, remote keyless entry, CC, paint/fabric prot; AT; MO)

Given the relative number of winners in these games, I'm actually surprised this wasn't the Dream Car game and the Focus wasn't in Lucky $even... Maybe they are trying to keep these games winnable after all.

  1. They really wanted to give that car away. If you picked a 5 everytime you would have won. Usually 5 is a no-no
