TPiRecap: 22 November 2013 (Dream Car Week #5)

It's a bit late, because I was out of town for most of the day -- and I was further delayed due to a breaking-news situation here in the Columbus area obliterating roughly the first half of the episode, forcing me to wait until CBS.com posted the full show -- but nonetheless here I am with all of your end-of-week goodness. It's also our last chance to give away a Dream Car this week, and I'm more than curious to see what it'll be this time... so, let's not wait any longer than we have to.

Time to make a memory...

Not wasting any time at all today; Richard is the lucky one who gets his shot at a Dream Car on this, the final show in our gimmick week.

So far this week, we've had Josephine's heart broken when she bailed on Temptation despite having a Porsche 911 in her grasp; we've seen Jason make the most of a total lay-up in Hole in One (to mix our sports metaphors) to claim a BMW; we've witnessed Bryce fail to get off the first prize on the Golden Road and thus miss out on a $114,000+ Mercedes-Benz; and just yesterday, Edwin broke the recent mold of Lucky $even players that, while normally a smart move, this time cost him a Jaguar convertible.

And now, it's Richard's turn to see if he can wrap up this week on a high note. If he does, he'll win this:
2014 Audi R8 V8 Quattro coupe (leather pkg, convenience pkg, black optic pkg, glass engine compartment, black headliner, and other assorted goodies that I just couldn't get copied down in time; RR)

To win it, all he has to do is keep 3 Strikes unblemished in Season 42. It's certainly doable, if Lady Luck is on his shoulder...

It is, however, the six-digit game (only played one other time in Price history, earlier this year for the infamous Ferrari). That's the bad news. ("Then I should get four strikes!" argues Richard. Alas, no can do...)

And now it gets down to serious time. One more Strike and this week ends on a sour note indeed -- on the bright side, Richard's odds are now 5-1 in favor of drawing anything but a Strike.

Can he pull off the upset? It's been done before...

Aw, man... he was so close, too. For a while it looked like he might actually pull the rabbit out of the hat (or the bag, if you prefer), but the law of averages simply caught up to him at the wrong time.

Is it me, or have all the losses on this stunt been serious downers, above and beyond simply losing out on a major prize? (For the record, if Richard had pulled this off, he would have broken Vicky-Ann's all-time record for the daytime series by just $484, before even getting to the Showcase Showdown let alone the Showcases themselves.)

Sigh... let's try to pick up the pieces and carry on as best we can.

We just can't seem to get away from this price range today, can we?

You know, other than the 2 absolutely having to stay where it is, I just can't make up my mind between the 8, 3, or 9 on this one. They all look about equally good or bad.

I WAS AFRAID OF THAT

Yeah, that's a classic example of how to set up Squeeze Play for a forced loss. Total Let's Make a Deal situation there; just take your blind pick of the three doors and hope for the best.

We've actually had a decent week in terms of wins and losses -- going into today we were comfortably over .500 -- but I fear today we'll be making up for lost time. 8^/

EMPTY
LOSS

Unfortunately, Rachel wasn't 100% careful when bringing the box to the table; we at home could peek inside just enough to see box #8 was empty, though I'm almost positive no one in the studio noticed this. Gotta be careful with that...

Incidentally, the lucky number today was... well, would you look at that. Lucky thirteen, for I believe is the first time in history that it's held the cash. We're just breaking senseless taboos left and right, aren't we?

  1. What really stinks is just how easily this week could have shifted. A gutsier player in Temptation, smarter players in Lucky 7 (NOW you won't say 5???) and Golden Road (a $379 TV set?), and we have at least three dream car wins and have two people in with a chance. I think the set-ups for the dream cars were fair, and there were some nice things, though. Seeing Pathfinder won again. Seeing $10,000 won on Grand Game. Seeing Spelling Bee...period. It was a pretty good week.
