TPiRecap: 16 December 2013

First off, many thanks for the support I've gotten in e-mail and forum posts elsewhere over my decision to hang up my recapper's notebook for good. I thank you all for understanding.

But it's not all bad news here. We do have the rest of this season to get through first, and I do plan on keeping up my recent streak of not missing a show if I can help it. I'm even going to forego my usual Christmas break and handle everything up through the end of 2013, barring pre-emptions. As for what happens after the official end of the season... I still haven't quite decided. I'm thinking about holding an "open audition" however, posting a link to a classic episode on YouTube and asking people to write in with a recap in their own style, with me choosing the winner from these trial runs. But I'm still trying to finalize things in my mind as to the best way to go forward here.

In any case, let's get on with today's proceedings...

Certainly didn't take long for them to bring out a bonus like that now that the Bob Barker tribute week's over...

Bargain Game:

Six-Digit Squeeze Play for a car:
2014 Chevrolet Spark LS (1.2L, tire pressure monitor, paint/fabric prot; RR)

I've wondered this aloud before, but I feel compelled to do so again here: Why do we see so many non-car games played for cars, but absolutely never do we see a car game played for "normal" prizes? I think it would be a neat way to mix up the format a bit -- and the show's even done things like this in the past (Money Game, for instance, used to be played for a boat about once or twice a season). Good idea/bad idea? I open this question to the floor.

In any event...

That was my gut feeling too, but I didn't like a price that high for a cheapo Spark. I erred on the side of caution.

WIN!

A fine example of how to play this game to win. If you're at all in doubt, it's best to intentionally overbid or underbid on the last item (depending on whether you think your running total to that point is too high or too low) to try and make up lost ground. As far as that goes, this is one of the most forgiving Pricing Games in the rotation. I have no idea if Brandon intentionally played with this strategy or if it just worked out that way, but it's still something to keep in mind should you ever be confronted with this one.

WIN!

Unnecessarily, as it turns out!

Ever funny do the winds of fate blow... After a pricing portion that can only be described as an unmitigated disaster, Doraluz still managed to put her one freebie chip into the big money slot and thus salvage the (fudge) win. And with two (fudge) wins in a row for Plinko, we get closer to being able to say "Okay, we're back on the winning track now."

Either way, that's what I call a turnaround! See? It can be done...

I had a feeling the shoes were correct after the first try. Meh, another undefeated falls. That leaves us with seven, and three of those are only unbeatens because they've had just the one appearance so far.

After a rather surprising lowball IUFB in the last round, Elizabeth now stands just one bid away from banishment. Hopefully she can avoid it...

While Elizabeth reports to the shuttle queue, Danielle plays Pocket ¢hange:
2014 Scion tC (2.5L, 6AT, carpeted mats, cargo mat, LuxCare; RR)

Back-to-back shows with this game. I'm okay with that, this is actually a fun one; it's hard, but unlike (say) Stack the Deck it's the sort of "hard" where the player determines the difficulty by how well s/he plays, not by trying to mind-read Mike Richards or whoever.

There was what looked like a really weird edit with the Bonus Spin; just after Doraluz spun, it cut to what looked like a digitally sped-up closeup of the Big Wheel in motion. I don't know what was up with that. Anyone? Anyone? Beuller? Beuller?
