TPiRecap: 24 December 2013 (Christmas Special #2)

It's Christmas Eve in TPiRecap Towers, and in case I don't get a chance to later, I just want to wish all my readers, whether you just discovered this site for the first time today or you've been with me since I started doing these on the GSN boards back in '07, a very Merry Christmas, or whatever it is you choose to call this time of year. As far as that seemingly never-dying manufactured controversy goes, I personally think Mike and the Bots had the definitive word on this whole mess twenty years ago, long before anyone was talking about "wars" on this or that holiday:

My sentiments exactly, guys, especially the last lyric.

In any event, it's day #2 of our two-day holiday celebration here in ol' Thirty-Three, so let's see how many presents are under the tree (and how many lumps of coal will be put into the stockings)...

First, a quick reminder that we're off tomorrow for the holiday, but will return on Thursday with a new show.

Let's make a memory, guys...

We kick off our Christmas party with Grocery Game:
Maid service (12 visits), groceries (52 weeks) & flowers (TeleFlora, 12 deliveries) for 1 year ($6,492; GOS)

Today's Theme: Twelve Days of Christmas
  • Frito-Lay Funyuns snack rings (slightly broken)
  • Birds Eye Steamfresh whole grain brown rice
  • Barber Foods Cordon Bleu frozen chicken breasts
  • Dove deodorant
  • Del Monte pear halves

If you don't get it, and I sheepishly confess I didn't until Drew and a floor director explained it to me:

Funyuns = "Five golden rings"
Birds Eye = "Four calling birds"
Chicken Cordon Bleu = "Three French hens"
Dove = "Two turtle doves"
Pear halves = "Partridge in a pear tree"

Gotta give credit here, that was one of the cleverer ones they've come up with. Anyway, let's get on with the game now...

It was the 5 on the hundreds digit that did him in. But it's an understandable error; I might've done the same thing.

...I... have no words for this. If I for one moment actually believed the Powers That Be would deliberately "rig" the show to tank the ratings and get it killed off -- which I don't, of course and if you do believe that malarkey you really need to put down the crack pipe -- I wouldn't have predicted this outcome.

A first half with only Contestant's Row winnings to show for it ($3,266 so far). It can only get better from here... I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

Just to put that in perspective, that IUFB was worth more than the most expensive prize in the last game. Granted, it was only $24 more, but even so...

The important thing is, Gregory just saved himself from banishment, and will now try to save us from a Fumigation Warning with a hopefully good showing in Double Prices:
Pair of Kymco Lite 200i motor scooters (GOS)

$5398

What's our rule, folks? Pair of the same prize... two options, one of which ends in an odd number... this is the closest thing to a forced win you're going to find, but the problem is, the contestant has to see it for what it is...

Lura, my dear, it's all up to you. You are all that stands between us and a particularly nasty skunking. The good news is, if you do pull it off, it should be obvious by now what you'll win.

The better news is, it's a game based entirely on luck... if you win at least one chance.

The bad news (for me) is, it's Rat Race, which means I have to do price research:
Win: 2013 Toyota Prius C-One hybrid (1.5L; $19,080 [1]; GOS)
Place: Diamond & tanzanite (3.63ct) costume jewelry (impossible to price; RR)
Show: Foosball table ($550 [2]; RR)

And of course, there's one prize I can't look up. With my luck it'll be the one prize she does win.

(RR is Santa's helper for the small stuff today)
$1: Hershey's Kisses candies (11oz)
$4.99
$3.99
$1.00
Pink(-ish) rat
$10: Rowanta steam iron
$59.99
$65
$5.01
Green rat
$100: SodaStream home soda maker
$99
$130
$31
Blue rat

Everyone in the Peanut Gallery's getting a SodaStream starter kit, and so can you -- you know where to go...

Three rats, she's guaranteed at least one prize... but I want to see the car won, to remove all doubt as to whether this was a bona fide skunking or not! I don't want a repeat of what happened earlier this year, where I scored what would have been a skunking differently because of my partial-win leniency.

In any case, let's do this, Rachel! Start the reindeer on their way, and hope for the best...

  1. I didn't even notice the pair violation in Double Prices (fitting game, ironically) 'til you pointed it out! That just makes it all the more shameful.
That aside, Merry Christmas, and best of luck in your endeavors after this season!
