TPiRecap: 24 January 2013

Just a quick note before we begin about the episodes I missed during my injury: For the episodes that aired 15-17 January, the fine folks at the GSParadise board were kind enough to handle those, for which I'm very grateful. Look for them under the "Game Shows of the Present" sub-forum, in the "Official Price is Right/TPiRecap Thread." Unfortunately they weren't so lucky when it came to this past Monday and Tuesday (20-21 January); for those, I recommend Roadgeek Adam's daily recaps over at Golden-Road. I will very likely not be doing them here, unfortunately. All stats I keep are kept current, however, and do incorporate numbers posted during episodes I skipped.

Also, I have been doing some thinking about my impending retirement, including weighing the possibility of not actually "retiring" at all. I almost feel like I'm getting my second wind with doing these, and they're starting to become fun again. I still have time to think it over, at least (I had originally planned to go out at the end of this season, which is still a good six to seven months away); I'll let you know in the next few weeks.

With that out of the way, let's get on with today's madness.

That's three shows in a row where the first IUFB has come in via the ol' Jewelry Elevator.

I see a little green $ on the floor, so that must mean Jennifer's about to play Pay the Rent:
  • Fritos hot bean dip (9oz)
  • Soft Scrub cleanser
  • Sensodyne ProNamel toothpaste
  • Beech-Nut baby food
  • Childrens' Dimetapp cold & cough syrup
  • Blue Diamond Nut-Thins snack crackers

My Arrangement:
Mailbox: Crackers
1st Floor: Cleaner + Bean dip
2nd Floor: Toothpaste + Baby food
Attic: Medicine

(GOS pitches, RR catches)

Solution:
Mailbox: Cleaner = $5.29
1st Floor: Crackers ($3.29) + Bean dip ($2.99) = $6.28
2nd Floor: Toothpaste ($6.49) + Baby food (69¢) = $7.18
Attic: Medicine = $7.99

The Soft Scrub went in the mailbox!? Bean dip is about a dollar or so more expensive than anyone had a right to think!?

Nobody was winning this hundred grand today. But hey -- bailing out with $10K is certainly nothing to sneeze at!

Canada

Apropos of nothing, I love how this show always classifies "Canada" as if it's a contiguous whole. That's why I always try to at least include the correct postal codes for the appropriate province.

Also, $7,126 works for me in this situation. Lee immediately pushes the blocks to that position -- then second-guesses himself and lets the Peanut Gallery talk him into going one block further.

"It's Ottawa," he says, in his defense. "Remember, Canada, he said it -- I didn't," Drew clarifies.

THAT'LL LEARN YA

Perhaps a small geography lesson is in order here: Ottawa, Ontario, is about 2-3 hours NE of Toronto. Quite a haul from LA, that. Add in having to cross an international border and that alone will drive up the price of the trip.

As promised, here's Kathy Griffin -- complete with her own "stalkerazzi," as George puts it, for this IUFB spot:

Insert sound of fists breaking glass windows here. Definitely should've picked the second number here; the 0 was the most obvious "gimme" here.

But it's not an unrecoverable error. Yet. Luck may yet be on our side...

Full disclosure: $960 was my own guess from the minute this game was revealed. So I feel Jonathan's pain on this one. >_<

Lucky. Very lucky.

Kayla will now try to snap our winless streak with Swap Meet -- as if I wasn't already in a less than stellar mood, they haul this game out -- but at least we get the Cats remix:
  1. Golden West Billiards pool table w/accessories (GOS)
  2. Christian Louboton designer shoes
  3. Kymco Compagno 110i motor scooter (George Gray-t Gazoo w/helmet)

Swap Prize: Pair of Sony Vaio laptop/tablet computers (8GB RAM, 128GB SSD; RR)

It's probably the scooter -- and Kayla concurs:

(Pool table: $2,400; Designer shoes: $1,670)

Maybe if those laptabs had been a single iMac... but no.

Again, no skunking, because we did have a bailout today. But not a good day by any stretch, as far as Pricing Game results go anyway.

Well... there's a bookend for ya, huh? We started the week with a DSW, and we ended it with... this.

But, wait! Kathy Griffin rushes over to Home Base -- she knows how much of a bummer a DOB is, and it just so happens that she "just talked to the Grammy people," so Sarah and Jennifer are each getting a pair of tickets to the show regardless. Well, that's something at least.

(Officially, that counts as "off the board" winnings.)
