TPiRecap: 27 February 2014 (Jim Lange Memorial Edition)

A bit of sad news as we start here: As I sat down to begin typing this up, word reached me that Jim Lange, one of the legendary hosts of the '60s through the '80s, had passed away at the age of 81. Pop culture will, of course, forever remember Jim as the longtime host of the iconic original Dating Game, but his career spanned such diverse series as... well, you'll see. Because in his honor, you can expect a few tributes to be thrown into today's mix.

For now, let's get on with today's proceedings, and...

...wait for it, wait for it...

...and herrrrrrrrrrrrre THEY ARE!

2014 Chrysler 200LX (3.6L V6, 6AT, traction ctrl, UConnect w/Bluetooth; MA)

Oh my word, this is not what you want to see right out of the chute. OTOH, this thing was actually won last time we saw it, so it is possible... not bloody likely, mind you, just possible.

But let's see how this game of give and take shakes out.

Darn those random designer outfits... the ones that look cheap are expensive, and the ones that look expensive are cheap. You can never tell which is which until its too late. That's my one and only objection to Price's use of them.

Check-Out:
Groceries (52 weeks), massages (12 sessions), and movies (Fandango, 104 tickets) for 1 year ($6,326; MA)

Mild disappointment. I was kinda holding out hope for something else to be our GP game today. You can probably guess what. The serendipity would have been nice, if purely coincidental.

Anyway...

  • Quaker Popped (née Quakes) rice snacks
  • Jell-O gelatin dessert mix

The juice was the real killer here. After that, Adam could still have saved himself by erring on the side of excess when it came to the Capzasin -- but he didn't.

I respectfully invoke my right to remain silent on the grounds that any comment I make here might result in unforeseen consequences. Instead, let's just move along.

For your second try, Adrienne, whatever you do, leave the car alone! I think that's one of the three for sure.

Small consolation is that the car wasn't one of the three she originally had right.

We're definitely in a tight spot now... Madison's looking at potential banishment to Leftover Island, while everyone else in the studio is double-checking to make sure they're not allergic to tomato-juice baths.

If you got it in you, #6634K, now's the time...

While Madison packs her bags, it's all eyes on Joelle to see if she can save the day.

She'll have to do it with Double Cross:
  1. Pair of LG 55" LED Smart HDTVs w/2 HDMI cables (MA)
  2. Suzuki DRZ125L offroad motorcycle w/helmet (RR)
As much as $1,725 breaks my rule for a paired item, it's also the only price that makes any sense at all for those TVs -- and the included HDMI cables do indeed allow an opening for the rule to be broken. $1,725 and $3,294 are it.

Joelle actually has it where she needs it to be... and then moves it one further, apparently just because she can.

Not only are we skunked, but at a mere $7,364 won, we could be looking at a historic low point. And today's depressing enough for a longtime game show fan. Please don't let there be a DOB today...

Well, that's all we could do. Too bad it wasn't better, but we still have Friday to dig ourselves out of this hole (only one win in the last two episodes).

So until next time, here's hoping everything you're going for hits the Bullseye! (I had to do that.) Later, all...

  1. You didn't include an Easter egg reference to Name That Tune. Lange had a one-year stint hosting this musical game show in 1984-85.

    1. I couldn't find a way to work it in that didn't sound like way too much of a stretch, even by my standards.
