TPiRecap: 7 May 2014 (Back From Gastrointestinal Hell Edition)

Folks, thanks for being patient with me for the past two days while I've dealt with a pretty major stomach bug. These are extremely un-fun things to deal with, as your imagination can probably tell you. I'm indebted to Kaos, tpirrules1972, and others at the Game Show Paradise boards for filling in during my absence to keep me abreast of what I missed -- looks like I missed an increasingly-rare occurrence yesterday, for example, where all three cars were actually won -- and to Quizx.com's episode guide for keeping my numbers up to date, especially in the wake of the problems G-R.net seems to be having with its hosting again.

I'm not back 100% yet, but I'm willing to settle for 85% and head back to work -- so that's what I shall do, now that it's no longer physically painful for me to remain seated at a computer for longer than ten minutes at a stretch, max.

Already I love Roderick's voice. He's definitely got a Mighty FM Announcer Voice of Authority going for him. Hope he gets on stage.

That's Too Much!:
2014 Chevrolet Camaro LS (3.6L V6, 6MT; RR)

...Great. I'm just getting back on my feet, and along comes this game to try and put me right back on my... well, back.

I think what gave me the most pause this time was the fact it was a stock Camaro, which could have adjusted the price downward. Ah well.

We can only go up from here, right?

Roderick, the "Living Proof" -- so name because he's now one year (prostate) cancer-free, and thus living proof that you can beat this thing -- dances his way over to Door #2 for Bargain Game:
  1. Crystal 2-person sauna (MA)
  2. Bowflex tread climber (RR)

Definitely more inclined (no pun intended, with the tread climber) towards the sauna here...

Of note, they went back to the pale-green ball of old, not the branded white one they'd been using the last few playings. (Maybe that's what did it?)

That leaves us with only two unbeatens left as we approach the home stretch of Season 42 -- Bonus Game and Now....or Then. The good news is, that's two more than we had by this point in each of the past two seasons, so at least there's still some hope.

Well, now, this is interesting! He's got a flat-out 67% chance of winning, because we know he's gonna get one do-over if he botches the ones digit on this next try.

To the doubters out there, you are now seeing the fabled Cover Up Strategy™ at its finest, even if Thomas isn't intentionally playing it that way. (Or is he?)

Memo to future contestants: Study what Thomas did here. Learn from it. Know it. This is how Cover Up was meant to be played. ^^;

Thomas managed to escape in the last round, but Minnie is still on the verge of banishment (and is somewhat humorously positioned just at the moment, just considering names). Will she survive?

Yeah, they're not selling as well as Microsoft hoped, which explains the price cut...

Grand Game:
  • Ovaltine classic malt beverage (yes, they still make it...)
  • Fresh Gourmet pecan pieces
  • Gold Bond Rapid Relief anti-itch cream
  • T.G.I. Friday's Buffalo wings
  • Walgreens Ology bathroom cleaner
  • Barbasol Pure Silk womens' shave cream

With a target price of five bucks, the obvious avoid is the cleaner. I'm also tempted to steer clear of the Ovaltine, since I know from experience how pricey that can get. But we'll see what happens with Maxine...

"Win" $1
(Pecans: $3.49; Skin cream: $4.24; Chicken wings: $6.99; Cleaner: $3.99; Shaving cream: $1.49)

And obviously, the cleaner was the big trap in this setup anyway. 8^/
