TPiRecap: 23 June 2014

And so we come down to the last full week of Season 42. This is not the end of the line, of course; next Wednesday we'll have one episode left over from an earlier pre-emption, and next Friday will be the annual Fourth of July special. That'll be where I close the books on the season. After that, TPiRecap Towers go into summer-hibernation mode for eleven weeks, with the exception of 15 August (for a Back to School Spectacular) and if any early news breaks regarding Season 43, which kicks off on 22 September.

Incidentally, for those who enjoy my writing and would like to see more of it, albeit on another subject, may I humbly bring to your attention an old and forgotten blog of mine that I've recently decided to bring out of mothballs? If you're a fan of old-school video games and the consoles or computers that ran them, The Cartridge Family may be up your alley (even if the punny title does nothing for you). Mostly it is, and will be, reviews of individual games for vintage platforms from the Atari 2600 through to the Amiga -- some classic, some not so much, and some infamous. I also plan to review the systems themselves, and have some cross-platform comparisons of games that made the rounds back in the day. This isn't just another angry/cynical gamer blog where I just rip bad old games to shreds... frankly, and no offense intended to those who do work that style, there's enough of that already out there, and I'd rather leave that style to those who can "do" angry and cynical far better than I ever could. I'll stick to writing in the style I know best -- informative, insightful, hopefully witty, and hopefully knowledgable. Check it out if you get the chance -- I plan to have at least one new review up every week through at least the summer, usually by Friday or Saturday.

And so with that, let's get on with the show for today...

Nice win to kick off the day, but that whole segment is worthy of the...
...stamp of approval. Where did Mike come up with an LA-to-Costa-Rica trip for under $4,500 in this day and age? I'm impressed, amazed, and slightly disturbed.

Pick-a-Pair:
The Triangle of Expensive Terror - namely, Elmira Stove Works retro-look appliances ($10,288; RR)

A prize like that in a game like this? I smell chicanery afoot.

And indeed, the GPs are suitably rare and, thus, difficult:

  • Listerine breath strips (3pk)
  • Oreo cookies
  • Purina Beneful prepared-meal dog food
  • Bumble Bee tuna salad w/crackers
  • Xtra-Drain opener
  • V8 vegetable juice (6 11.5oz cans)

A motley bunch, to be sure. Crossed-finger time.

On the plus side, we made it to almost the end with at least one game undefeated. That's much better than we had been doing in the recent past, where the last unbeaten has fallen usually by the end of February or March. Gotta count for something.

Better luck in Season 43, I guess...
