TPiRecap: 12 November 2014 (Big Money Week #3)

On a note of personal housekeeping, there's a chance I could miss next Wednesday through Friday due to family-related business. However, there's a chance the "family-related business" may not actually require my presence, in which case service will continue uninterrupted until the Thanksgiving break. I'll try to keep you informed here. In the meantime, let's do this...

Most Expen$ive keeping up its perfect attendance record:
  1. Whirlpool Duet washer & dryer (***PLESSERS.COM ALERT***; RR)
  2. The Holland Grill gas barbecue (AL)
  3. Samsung 55" 3D LED HDTV (GG)

Even with the Plessers.com warnings out for Television City, my gut still says that's the one to go with here, but that TV also looks like one of the more expensive ones. Definitely stay off the grill though.

Gregory gets the honor of playing today's...
...which is not that aborted modernization attempt, thankfully. Rather it's the new(ly redesigned) kid on the block, Time is Money... for ten times the normal amount, or $200,000.

If we are to assume the clock ticks off at the same proportion (i.e., at roughly $10,000/sec rather than $1,000) Gregory stands a pretty good chance of taking home well over the norm for a cash game. Ergo, no partials are given out here; as long as he stays over $10K he gets the Checkmark of Distinction when tallying wins and losses.

Other than that, the rules are the same as ever, so let's get on with the proceedings:
  • Vanity Fair Everyday paper napkins (100)
  • Scotch-Gard fabric & upholstery protector (10 oz)
  • Act Restoring mouthwash
  • C&H pure cane brown sugar (1 lb)
  • Wonderful pistachios (8 oz)

Other than the pistachios going in the expensive bin and the Act in the middle, it's all up for grabs as far as I can tell. Good luck, my man, good luck...

First try, for all the marbles, is as follows...

I do like how this looks, though... maybe just move the pistachios to the $6 area would be enough? (He actually tried to do just that at the buzzer, but the judges ruled he made that change a hair too late to count.)

I actually wouldn't have figured the napkins to go anywhere but the cheap pile myself. This was hard... but then again, with as much money to play for as this, it almost had to be.

Looking at the list now, I notice he actually repeated a lot of patterns too. But with time ticking away like that, this is forgiveable under the circumstances. It's not like when you repeat guesses in 10 Chances, which usually brings out my more mundicidal urges.

Ah well, still two more chances for big bucks this week...

[Some time later...]

Rarely have I ever been happier to be wrong about something in my life. In hindsight, however, I suppose it was obvious; none of the four SPs looked like they could be realistically under $20, so by simple process of elimination that way the 1 was the way to go for the car. In fact, I'm now kicking myself around the office a few times for not noticing that myself, when it sticks out so badly. What was I thinking?

Nevertheless, a fantastic win for Lisa on a game with a nasty reputation!
