TPiRecap: 24 November 2014

Okay, folks, here's the deal. It's Thanksgiving week here in the States, which means there are only three first-run shows as per usual. Thursday is our annual pre-emption for holiday parades and suchlike, and Friday is a repeat while nearly everyone's engaging in gladitorial combat at the local mall over this or that insane discount. Next week, however, we're up to the rest of the tapings that had to be cancelled because of Drew's neck procedure, the same batch that would have contained this year's Halloween special. Only the Monday show next week is new; the rest are repeats from earlier this season. (After that, however, we're good to go until Christmas.)

So, here's how it's gonna go down. Because there's only three shows this week and one next, I'm going to go ahead and group them together (for record-keeping purposes) as a single week of four episodes. Thus, there won't be the usual stats post at the end of this week; that will come on Monday, following that episode. And while I can't promise anything, I do have a few more Kennedy and Davidson syndies at my disposal that I could do some retro recaps for during the "off week," so perhaps—if I get the chance—you'll see one or two of those.

So that's our game plan for the next two weeks around here. And so to today's doings, because hey, this train ain't gonna wreck itself...

Since it's a Spark, past experience suggests the $15-16K range, maybe even as low as $14K. Tread lively, Lisa...

So it's either the $14K model (likely, since it's mostly stock) or the price of Sparks has gone way up lately.

And that settles that! Now she's got at least two chances to find that ones digit—and if you rule out the zero (almost certainly the last digit of the sunglasses) and the nine (probably the first number of the Piggy Bank, since Piggy Banks less than five bucks these days are quite rare), then she has a 66.7% chance of picking it out of the 1, 2, or 3 in those two calls.

That's the good news. The bad news is, zero and nine are still on the board, and we all know those are two of the three numbers players always gravitate to when it comes to the last digit of a car price (the third being five). This could still bite her.

Let's hope...

Unfortunately, the "4" paddle fell off and he replaced it, then went back and hit the button again on the same configuration. This cost him about three seconds, and I won't even bother documenting that.

The 4 paddle falls off again (he had it up high) and he wastes more time (at least five seconds!) grabbing it off the floor and putting it where he intended to, despite Drew's exhortations to "LEAVE IT, LEAVE IT!" This probably ends up costing him the game.

High on the first digit when it's a 7? Mike was trying to get cute, I see.

Credit to Todd, though; even with his costly mistakes in trying to chase runaway paddles (and seriously, can we find some other way to register guesses, like maybe light frames á là the Wipeout endgame? This is becoming an epidemic of paddle fails), he still moved fast enough to get eight tries at it. That's more than the average player gets when they dawdle and waste time polling the audience. Still, those paddles... ugh.

With a DP like that, the washer & dryer and foosball table are safe as houses. It really comes down to whether you believe the laptop or the accessories are $1,607, and I feel as if the accessories are more likely to be that.

  1. You won't BELIEVE what I saw happen during today's episode!

Sometime around the time Bonkers was revealed, ABC News pre-empted The View for a press conference from Barack Obama announcing the resignation of the Secretary of Defense(?), which said secretary also participated in. Not long after that, as TPIR went to commercial, NBC News pre-empted for the same thing (in my area, The 700 Club airs opposite TPIR...).

But CBS News DIDN'T pre-empt TPIR!

I wonder if all my LiveJournal entries tagged "pointless pre-emption" are finally getting through to those CBS News guys? ;)
