It could just be me, but I'm begininng to see a two-True-two-False pattern emerging in recent playings of this game. I wonder how long it'll be before it catches on... and if it will catch on before they change it up again.

Stealth wordplay if you're a wrestling fan: Mark (the one who just won) is wearing a T-shirt with a rooster standing on a guitar, with the word "OUT" visible. His nametag is directly above this word, covering whatever was originally on the shirt so it now appears to read... that's right, "Mark Out." Which is the reaction most of us LFaTs tend to have whenever we see something nostalgic happen on this show. ^^;

Drew, on Barbara's bid: "Wasn't that nice of her? She could've been mean and said $2..."

Erin and Barbara clearly need to brush up on their smartphone prices, but it's probably not even their fault; I've said all along that contracts and other too-good-to-be-true deals from the major carriers have all but deadened our collective sense of just how expensive the things really are.

(And I'm fully aware of what Erin did, but I'm honestly trying not to lose my temper over it anymore. Really, it's not worth the effort.)

Double Cross:
  1. Trip to San Juan, PR (6n, Verdanza Hotel, daily breakfast, 1 dinner, 1d historical Caguas tour; RR)
  2. Trip to Portland, OR (6n, Inn & Northrup Station, hop-on-hop-off trolley tour; MA)

Unfortunately, the most obvious candidate for the Puerto Rico trip—$6,452—leaves the extremely unlikely price of $2,756 for Oregon. Likewise, $5,619 seems to be a slam dunk for Portland but leaves $3,864 for San Juan, which is similarly less than plausible. But it logically has to be something... This may be one of the trickier Double Cross setups since the game was added to the rotation.

If I had to bet, however, I'd just leave the thing where it is to start.

Shows what I know. But seriously, they've offered trips to Santa Barbara and San Diego in Contestant's Row that have been worth more than this Oregon jaunt, so you can understand my reluctance to commit to that one. I have a feeling this was one of those "set up for a loss" games, but Lilibeth pulled the Robin Hood. Good on her, and Double Cross stays unbeaten!

Ordinarily I'd think the motorcycle, but I've recently been shopping for DSLRs and I think the leather bag is enough to push #1 over the edge here. Let's find out.

Time is Money:
  • Oxi Clean stain remover (1.3 lb)
  • Seneca apple chips (2.5 oz)
  • Rosarita Traditional refried beans (16 oz)
  • Vicks DayQuil caplets (16)
  • Crisco vegetable shortening (16 oz)

The table seems slightly closer to the pedestals this time. I'm just making an observation; it could just be an illusion created by the camera angles.

I say to put the Oxi Clean and the DayQuil in the expensive tray, with the beans standing alone in the cheap one.

Oxi Clean is cheaper than I thought. Huh.

Upon further consideration, I have decided to not count "partial" wins for Time is Money after all. Originally I had planned to count the win as "partial" if the player won less than $10,000, which I then adjusted down to $5,000 once I realized the money clock had a "red zone" past that level. After thinking about it some more, however, I found it hard to justify not giving a full two-point credit when the show would clearly consider this a "win" (with dings and theme music no less), so I'm striking that particular Fudge Rule from the record books before it ever had to be used.

I expect to take some heat for this, but let's face it—at this stage I expect to take some heat no matter what I do anyway, so I'm kinda used to it by now. Heh. ^^; Anyway, consider the "Can't we all just get along?"s said and let's move on with our lives...

  1. I honestly thought your partial rule for Time is Money was a good idea. But hey, if you wanna drop it for fear of moving the goalposts too much, it's cool.
