TPiRecap: 31 December 2014 (Best of 2014 Spectacular)

But before we begin, I want to wish all my readers a happy and prosperous 2015—and just remind everyone that if you're gonna be out tonight, please remember to take extra care with the drinking and such. Not just your own, either; New Year's Eve is Amateur Night for every lightweight who thinks he or she can hold their liquor, only to discover they really can't... and the results aren't usually pretty. I want to have everyone back here on Friday when we formally ring in the new year in Studio 33.

Just remember, you can't say "drive" without the "dry."

Before we can ring in the new, however, we need to say good-bye to the old, and to that and...

Cliff Hangers:
Trip to Geneva, Switzerland (9d, Insight Vacations, premium accomodations, 7 breakfasts, 2 dinners; $14,574; GOS)

REVELATION! After 39+ years, the Yodely Guy finally gets a proper name on the daytime series! As you know, we've been referring to him as "Hans" for years around the ol' Towers in deference to Doug Davidson (who named him "Hans Gudegast" after the birth name of one of his Y&R co-stars), mostly because the canonical daytime series never called him anything but "the mountain climber" (Bob) or "Yodely Guy" (Drew). But that has all changed now on this, the final day of 2014, as during George's spiel, he referenced the gimmick where viewers were encouraged to print out their own copy of the little dude and Tweet selfies with him anywhere and everywhere, using the hashtag #YodelyGuy... and in so doing, let slip the fact he actually does have an official name when he referred to him as "Johannes, also known as 'the Yodely Guy'!"

Come to think of it, "Hans" might be a derivative of "Johannes" in a way, even if the pronunciation is way off ("YO-han"). But since my grandfather was actually named Johannes, I'll happily make that change in his honor. ^^;

In retrospect, however, I kinda liked the forehead-slappingly obvious answer they came up with on the Aussie Price, where they decided to call their mountain climber... what else? Cliff! XD

Anyway, on to the game now, where Johannes or Hans or whoever he is resplendent in a leiderhosen tux...

From bidding $7,500 on an iPhone to a perfect bid... what a turnaround for Yorkouincia!

In 2014, we had a week-long gimmick tailored around social media, and one of the things we got that week was an unprecedented look at what goes on behind the scenes during a taping of the show. The video is up on the website (and a few other places where it—cough, ahem—really shouldn't be, but you can find it if you look). This is mentioned as a way to explain why one of the prizes in Double Prices is giving us a glimpse at "The Other" Adam Sandler in the booth:
LG 70" 3D LED Smart HDTV w/Magic Remote & 2 pairs of glasses, & Flexsteel 4-seat theater sofa (GOS)

$7899
$5456

It's an LG... but that theater seating is at least $4,500 by itself and even an LG that's 70" and 3D wouldn't be that cheap. $7,899 is the way to go, I think.

And another favorite moment of 2014 was when Price and The Late Late Show swapped casts for the day, Drew trading off with his old buddy Craig Ferguson; we get a glimpse of Bob Newhart Secritariat showing off a Toyota Tacoma in More or Less... the same kind of truck Mitchell can now win in Money Game:

Yeah, the odds weren't in his favor going for 43, but honestly, I could have seen it. The Easter egg is correct every once in a blue moon, after all; no reason it couldn't have been here, particularly with a Front-and-Back situation in play. Still, probably not the smartest move. 8^/

I think I've got a sneaking suspicion I know what the last game will be today. After all, if we're talking "Best of 2014," and we've already seen two of the three games that got revamped during this past calendar year... what better way to wrap it up than with the third?

  1. I want to have everyone back here on Friday when we formally ring in the new year in Studio 33.
    Even Shaun Shaffer and Michael Taylor? -_-;

    I notice that part of the URL that that Reimu(?) image goes to is "AAAAAAAAEYA", which sums up my opinion of that bidding round pretty nicely!

    The Price is Right Live stage shows in Las Vegas have been calling the mountain climber "Johann" for years, so that "REVELATION!" isn't as much of a revelation as you think.
