TPiRecap: 8 December 2014

Big day around here today, as it's finally time to announce the winner of the Second Price is Right Male Model Search. Yeah, it's kind of flown under the radar compared to the first one, but Drew's been mentioning it regularly and we're down to our three finalists, in this episode taped just about 48 hours ago (in one of the quickest turnarounds I've ever seen for this show).

Let's do this...

First Four

Also, note there's no Rachel today. This is the first show she's missed since last season's April Fool's special, and that only because the gimmick was the Price and Late Late Show casts swapping gigs for the day. Aside from that, I don't think Rachel's missed a "normal" episode since returning from maternity leave.

I say $6,840. $6,040 doesn't look high enough and $6,800 is unwise for the RNG that a trip is.

Apparently, Thing Addams has taken a job with Local 33, because the hand gets a hand when Drew pulls out David's selection, which for the record is...

Hi-Lo:
Pair of Piaggio Fly 150 3V motorscooters w/helmets ($6,138; MO, MA)

  • Biotène moisturizing mouth spray
  • Girard's Caesar salad dressing
  • Brillo steel wool soap pads (4)
  • Kit Kat snack-size candy bars (10.78 oz )
  • Aveeno shave gel (7 oz)
  • Nature's Own 100% whole wheat bread

This isn't that difficult a setup from where I sit. I'd go with the mouth spray (duh), the Kit Kats, and the salad dressing as being the most expensive stuff. The salad dressing is because even the standard Hidden Valley Ranch stuff frequently flirts with the $4 mark, and this is a gourmet label so one would naturally assume it's even higher than that.

But let's see what Aleece does...

...AND SO IT DOES!

Two-for-two so far, and both times against my allegedly-better judgement. I'll take it! ^^

However, I note the relatively low amount offered so far today—$13,559. So even though every penny of it has been won so far, it's very much a Budget Mode Spectacular. Not to throw cold water on the proceedings, of course, but I just wanted to point that out.

Moving right along, then...

Before we continue, it's time to announce the winner of the Male Model Search, and here he is Coming On Down... everyone say hello to the newest member of the Price family...

James O'Halloran!

James is from Australia (with the accent to prove it), and says a few words of introduction to everyone. Drew: "Bad enough he's young and good-looking, but he's gotta have that accent too?"

  1. ...in this episode taped just about 48 hours ago (in one of the quickest turnarounds I've ever seen for this show)...
There WAS an episode early in May 2011 that aired merely 24 hours after it was taped. It was an all-military(-ish) episode, and Drew intro'd it by saying that it was done to "commemorate" the killing of Osama bin Laden. Which is a bizarre claim if you believe Golden Road.net's timeline, which says that the episode was intended to air the Friday before Military Appreciation Day and have military families on there regardless!

    I don't know if you saw that one, though; as I recall, you didn't recap it for GSN.com. I did! ^^;

  2. Came close to having a 3 way Bonus /Spin off situation. Can you recall if there ever has been a Showcase Showdown where all 3 contestants spun a dollar to force a 3 way spin off?

    1. A three-way Bonus Spin-Off has actually happened a few times over the years, though obviously not often.
