Valentine's Day Wedding Shower Spectacular

Since Valentine's Day ("Singles Appreciation Day" for the sarcastic unattached out there) falls on a Saturday this year, we're celebrating it today in Old Thirty-Three, with engaged couples competing for appropriately-themed prizes. If the past is any guidepost, we can fully expect one of the prizes on offer today to be a full-blown wedding experience in some exotic setting with an appropriately-astronomical price tag... and, I am sure, some gnashing of teeth by that certain vocal minority of fans who object on principle to seemingly everything this show does that takes it away from the formula that worked during the '80s and '90s. But I don't want to dwell on the negative... I just want to accentuate the positives, and one of those positives is that this gimmick usually ends up giving us some of the biggest one-day hauls of a given season.

However... if you're a superstitious sort, then you certainly know what else today is and are almost certainly on the lookout for black cats, broken mirrors, open umbrellas, and crazed killers in goalie masks.

Let's see what this day brings us...

Incidentally, names of couples are given in the order George read them as he called them down and will be adhered to throughout.

Since it's Michael Amini, I'm putting my money on $13,934. That seems right in line. $12,113 wouldn't surprise me either, though.

By the way, if there's any doubt, Drew's jest of "$250 apiece!" should put to rest any questions you may have about this particular bonus as applied to a "doubles" episode such as this.

So far, we've given away everything but a car... so let's see if we can do that with the help of Cover Up (or perhaps in spite of it):

Actually, the blue symbols are flowers rather than G-T asterisks, but this came the closest of anything I could find in the Unicode chart. And it's not theme-inappropriate at all. ^^;

I would say... $23,570.

Never claimed to be a Rhodes scholar. Well, given my wrestling fandom, maybe a Dusty Rhodes scholar... ;^P

Unfortunately, it can be that way sometimes. After the first two digits, Cover Up effectievly becomes a game of "guess the random numbers," which often goes as well as you'd expect. A little manipulation of the odds is called for in these situations, which is what gave rise to the Patented Cover Up Strategy™ of intentionally blowing the ten-thousands digit (and getting the thousands one) to at least ensure yourself of a third try later on.

Hint: Think in terms of the last act.

These two have an interesting story. I didn't mention it earlier (because quite frankly it was none of my business), but when George called them down in the opening, Bruce and Christy were revealed as having the same last name. I just naturally sort of assumed they'd jumped the gun on their own wedding and started going by their shared last name already... but it turns out there's actually something to this. Turns out that Bruce and Christy had already been married... once, but it had ended in divorce. They've since reconciled, gotten back together, and are now actually re-marrying each other. I guess it really does happen that way sometimes, even in the real world. 8^)

One Wrong Price:
  1. Flexsteel leather loveseat (RR)
  2. Jimmy Choo bride & groom designer leather shoes (AL)
  3. Samsung 65" 3D LED Smart HDTV w/4 pairs of glasses (JO)

The TV price, very notably, does not end in -00. That's virtually a dead giveaway... if you're paying attention, of course!

They escape! And just in time for the second-half car game, which turns out to be Balance Game of all things:
2015 Volkswagen Jetta S "with tech" (or so sayeth Georgeth; 2L, 5MT, rearview camera; AL)

As an aside, I can't help but find it amusing that all three "small" bags on the players' side this time (not counting the giveaway three-digit bag, of course) each supposedly contain as many Drew Dollars as does the giant bag representing the ARP of the prize in virtually every other playing of this game. And yet, neither Sasha nor David will be straining anywhere near as much with them as the model tries to sell she does with the giant bag. Kayfabe, guys, kayfabe...

Anyway... if it were me, I'd say $19,340 this time. I don't think a Jetta breaks twenty grand. I've been known to be wrong before, however...
...but not this time, alas. 8^/

Before the big reveal, Drew and George reveal that everyone in the audience today (engaged couples all) will be receiving the following, compliments of The Price is Right: Eight Datelivery themed "dates-in-a-box" (JO, RR)

These are actually a pretty neat idea: Each box is unmarked, and each conceals a different set of contents designed to add a little variety and "spice" to any date night. I'd probably say something pithy here to the effect of "Not
that sort of 'spice', this is a daytime show after all," but... well, for all I know maybe one of the themes DOES involve lingerie of some kind! After all, the gimmick is that you never know what you're going to get until you open the box... anything from all the ingredients and tools necessary for a stay-at-home "pizza night," to stuff for a "scavenger hunt," just to name two examples that George mentions (and the "pizza" box is shown open).

And, as always, you can win your own set of eight
Treasure Hunt Datelivery boxes from you-know-where... and now, back to our regularly-scheduled Showcases...

  1. $7,400 for an IUFB!?! They're GOLD wedding bands, not PLATINUM! Ò_Ó

...and, I am sure, some gnashing of teeth by that certain vocal minority of fans who object on principle to seemingly everything this show does that takes it away from the formula that worked during the '80s and '90s.
There are still fans like that out there? D:

Never claimed to be a Rhodes scholar. Well, given my wrestling fandom, maybe a Dusty Rhodes scholar... ;^P
Does that mean I'll one day see you on Botchamania making insane commentary? "He won a BICYCLE!!! He won a bicycle! Who'd be sellin' a bicycle up in Studio 33!?!"

Is it wrong that I wanted to ram the Cliff Hangers players into a wall? -_-; It takes a special breed of stupid to flush a trip about as expensive as a Mercedes C-Class down the toilet, especially when the game didn't seem to be made any more difficult than usual for it...

I really liked that three of the women on this episode wore boots. I especially liked that Arlene's went over the knee! ^^

Maybe that was the problem exactly. They probably thought (on some level) that, since this was for such a big-money prize, it was going to be a harder playing than usual with a bunch of landmines. Obviously that proved to not be the case, but with a $39K trip on the line and a trio of unusual SPs to get through, it could have easily appeared that way. They gambled on the wrong horse, that's all.
