Before the fun begins today, two pieces of business.  First, due to yesterday's attack of gremlins, one thing that actually was under my control and I failed to follow through with was the Check Game result.  I now provide it below.

Secondly, steps are being taken to prevent another "gremlin attack" like yesterday.  It's still a bit of a kludge, and it regrettably involves the use of Microsoft Word as an intermediary, but hopefully it will be readable today.  I tested this method and it appears to work fine, so... cross your fingers and hope everything goes as smoothly in practice as it did during the dry run.

And believe me, today of all days, I want to make sure things go smoothly...

Drew is introduced as usual, but... wow, does he ever look different today!  He got a lot thinner, a lot older... in fact, if I didn't know better, I'd almost swear that was...

Well, as a matter of fact, I do know better, and that is who it looks like!  Ladies and gentlemen, the one, the only... Bob Barker is in the house today, taking over the show he hosted for thirty-five seasons.

The Peanut Gallery, once they realize what's going on, goes even wilder than usual.  We get a close-up of one dude in particular who's got an awesome "WTF?!" face going.  You can well imagine... make The Trip, arrive at the BBS, expect to get in and hopefully have your name called, and then... bammo, a Memorable Moment™ literally right out of the gate!

Bob says he's here today because he was "selected" to be this year's April Fool's Day gag.  "And I know the world is full of fools, but I... am a carefully selected fool!"

Oh, Bob... never change.

Let's get right into it!

Even with the WGMC on-hand, people are still gonna low-ball those smartphones... this is what contracts have done to us.

Bob: "Now, Mary... you came to the show hoping to be invited to Come On Down, didn't you?"
Mary: "I did, yes!"
Bob: "And you did get down there."
Mary:  "I did!"
Bob: "And then you hoped to get up on stage."
Mary: "I did, yes."
Bob: "And you're up on stage!"
Mary: "I am!"
Bob: "Now, what—what do you hope to win?"
Mary: "Um... a hundred thousand dollars on Pay the Rent?"

The look on Bob's face is indescribable!  Yes, Bob, there have been... developments since you left.  ;^)

Bob: "...Why don't you go back and we'll bid again?"

Fortunately, Mary's second choice is a new car... which is good, because we do have that for her.  Unfortunately (given recert precedent) she's gonna have to play Not-So-Lucky $even in order to win it:

It took us calling Bob out of retirement, but we have finally snapped Lucky $even's eight-game skid!  (One more loss would have tied it with That's Too Much! for the longest losing streak of Season 43 to date.)

Bob: "And now, after that wonderful welcome you gave me, let's have another wonderful welcome for the guy you came to see—the star of The Price is Right, Drew Carey!"

The emphasis on "star" is mine.  This is, ultimately, that formal passing-of-the-torch moment we never really had before—not when Bob came back for the Showcase cameo in 2008, not when we celebrated Bob's 90th birthday, certainly not on Bob's last show or on Drew's first.  Also note well:  When Bob was hosting, the spiel always introduced him as "the star of The Price is Right," and although Drew was also billed thus doring his first season (36), by year #2 it had been exchanged for "your host," which is what we now have.  tl;dr: Can we now finally get over it, folks?  ^^;

Anyway, Drew enters through Door #2, as usual, and accepts the torch microphone from Bob... who will be back later, we're told.

"Best April Fool's Day ever!" declares Drew, as we go back (for the time being) to business as unusual...

...Oh, my.  This is a pickle, isn't it?  That's the cheapest Piggy Bank I've seen in a long time.

Logically speaking, $14,036 seems the most likely car price from those remaining.  But I've been wrong before.  Under no circumstances whatsoever should Sonya call an 8 here, because that laptop is so $897 it hurts.  The pennies digit for the Piggy Bank could be literally anything, however...

  2. It'd have been real funny if instead of Lucky 7, they gave Bob Hole in One. See if he can still "shake it into the hole," so to speak. But hey, we gotta count those blessings!
