TPiRecap: 2 April 2015

I think I've licked the problem once and for all; I've gone and downgraded LibreOffice back to the previous version. Since the problem appears to have been caused by changes to the rendering engine LO uses, I figured that dropping back to a "last known good" release might help. And it appears to have done so.

I guess I'll be using this version of LO for a while longer, at least until I figure out the "correct" (by which I mean coder-approved) method of doing table markups that look like this without resorting to the "blasphemy" of using word processors.

Anyway...

Had this one figured from the off... anything less than five grand for a single stage prize is to be automatically discounted as an option, and $8,735 and $9,912 were just silliness. That left $6,199 as the only remaining viable option.

Andrea will be left behind on Leftover Island unless she's careful...

Three picks in this game ain't bad these days! And all credit for finally guessing True, too! Hopefully this will motivate the correct behavior for future contestants... oh, who am I kidding? ;^)

As for the price of the car... since it's a stock Sonata, $18,535 jumps out at me. It could be as high as $20,700, though.

WIN!
OOPS

What happened? I think Manuela got confused and thought this was Andrea's only pick, perhaps because so many 5PT players only get one these days, so she just automatically started pulling price tags off as part of the reveal... and the first tag she pulled, $21,960, happened to be the ARP of the car. Only too late did she realize the game wasn't over yet.

(Memo to a certain someone: THIS is what a "technical win" looks like. When the show screws up, or when a game is ruined in a way that isn't the contestant's fault, and the contestant is awarded the win as a result. See the difference between this and what you do all the time?)

Manuela, for her part, tries to hide behind the prop in amused embarrassment (amussment?), as she probably realizes she's about to get kidded about this for the rest of her career on the show.

Well then... that was a heckuva way to get a winner in this game!

  1. Hey, now. Despite going for full clarity, and that the "target" IS a complete loony, let's not press the luck TOO much here.
But yeah, sorta nice to see you're not the only one who's been numbed to 5PT players salvaging only one guess. I thought of you the moment that happened!
