Note
Earth Day Special

It's that time of year again, where we offer prizes, products, and maybe a few helpful hints that are perhaps a bit friendlier to our little Spaceship Earth than our usual fare.

Hey, even the Turntable's getting into the power-saving act... at least one of the backlights is burnt out! ;^) I jest, of course. Meanwhile, the default wallpaper on Contestant's Row is going back to "elementary" school... earth (grass), wind (windmills), fire, and water (waterfall).

Finally, contestants who aren't afraid to go high on a smartphone package... Maybe it's because they see what's already on-stage, and know that winning that phone means they get to walk the Golden Green Road:
  1. Pair of Nikon CoolPix waterproof cameras w/2 memory cards (RR with the tiny "classic" Golden Road shell)
  2. Windrider 16 60'7" trimaran w/trailer & 3 life vests (AL)
  3. 2015 Porsche Panamera SE hybrid (3L, 8AT, RWD, 20" 911 Turbo wheels, center caps, aux cab, power sunblind, prem pkg, dark walnut int pkg, multi-function wheel, paint/interior prot, PYRO is eco-friendly too; over $111,000; RR)

Here are your options... $111,720, $111,320, $111,920, and $111,020.

Since all the revealed digits are low ones, I'm halfway tempted to say 9 or 7 here... 9 being what my gut is screaming for. This, however, is what Marissa picks...

Where'd that 3 come from? Mike? Was that you using that remote-controlled shape-shifting ink plates the lizard aliens gave you again, for the express purpose of rigging the games and annoying people named after tattoo parlors?

All joking aside, that was definitely unexpected. >_< And sucky. Hopefully we can still recover from this, though losing out on a $111K Porsche is always a tough pill to swallow... yet swallow it we must.

And with that, Amber breaks the streak of eight straight winners being the last person to bid.

Hi-Lo:

  • Dr. McDougall's gluten-free split pea soup (18.2 oz)
  • TRESemmé Naturals shampoo (25 fl oz)

Frightening setup, as nothing here is stuff you see very often... I think I'll go with the last three items belonging on the Hi row, though.

Oddly enough, the odds of winning the Porsche were actually better than the odds of winning this Prius; Marissa only had a 1:4 chance of finding the correct missing digit. Pathy is an entirely different eco-friendly barrell of sustainably-farmed fish...

The odds of winning are now 1:8, technically speaking; 1:2 for this digit, 1:3 for the next one, and 1:2 for the last. Of course, a single mistake along the way and it's Game Over, so those odds are fairly misleading. Like a high-wire act without a safety net.

Of note, however, is that this time I didn't see any faint outlines of unlit numbers. Which is not to say they weren't there, just that I didn't notice them. Improvement? It certainly didn't improve the result of course. 8^/

Charlene, meanwhile, will be packing for a trip to the most eco-friendly place on Earth—because there's no sign of permanent human habitation on Leftover Island—unless she gets out of the Row this time...

2. Unplug Yourself!

...and WBNS chooses literally the WORST POSSIBLE MOMENT to cut in with a breaking news update, regarding an outbreak of botulism in Farfield County (OH) stemming from a potluck dinner, with one person dead and 23 more hospitalized. Have a happy Earth Day, folks, and remember... no matter what you believe about things like "climate change" and whatnot, there's one thing we can all agree on: It may not be much, but it is the only planet we've got. It wouldn't kill us to at least try and take better care of it, would it?

  1. I missed this episode because my local baseball team (the Salem Red Sox, a minor-league affiliate of the more famous Red Sox...) had a game at 11:05 A.M..

Looks like I missed a lot. They picked THIS, of all episodes, to play Golden Road on? For a 6-digit prize, even!?! And they offered a trip in the first Showcase to a place not far from my home, in Bath County!?! Where's the old GSN forums' "BangHead" smiley when I need it? >_<

Drew: "I don't usually root for a contestant, but my money's on Amber Stoner."
That's her real name!?! I kinda wish she'd bid $420 at least once... D:

Except to some people, even THAT modest notion is somehow threatening.
