TPiRecap: 21 May 2015

Before I begin today, if you'll indulge me for a moment. I want to say a few words to anyone out there in the reading audience who's a fan of fantasy/SF books.

A very good friend of mine, Hannah Steenbock, is in the process of writing a new series of books, The Cloud Lands Saga. It's a great series with compelling characters, dragons, warring countries, courageous heroes and dastardly villains, and more roller-coaster thrills than any three summer blockbusters you can name. If you're a fan of Anne McCaffrey's Pern novels, you'll love this. The first two books in the ongoing series, Dorelle's Journey and Kraken War, are available for immediate download as e-books for your Amazon Kindle (the device or the software) for less than five bucks for the pair, or for a little bit more you can order print copies of each that look nice on any bookshelf or bedside reading table. By all means, check them out! You'd be doing both Hannah and myself a real solid if you do.

I don't plug products often here, so when I do it's for a product I think is really worth your time to check out. This is one of those times.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...

That's a lot of 3s for this game. Not worried about the first one, am worried about the last two—especially the last of all, going against the odds like that. Here's hoping.

Steffonie at least wasn't afraid to go high for a Contestant's Row trip, but she went way too high. Still, at least it's a refreshing change of pace from the usual sub-$2K bids we often see for those.

Do the Math:
  1. LG ultra-capacity washel & dryer w/wicker hamper (GOS)
  2. Apple 27" iMac computer (Retina display, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD; JO)
From the opening of Door #2 I thought the washer & dryer were the more expensive option, but once I saw the price difference I became less than certain. In fact, now I think it's likely to be an "add" scenario here; IIRC that washer/dryer combo hovers around $2,200, and adding $1,049 to that results in $3,249, which is right around where a stage game should be these days and in line with what Macs go for these days.

Velina, for her part, subtracts...

Remember when I said there was still plenty of show to make up for it? I'm starting to wonder now...

Matthew is on active duty about the USS Ronald Reagan in aviation maintenance, where "it's my job to make sure Maverick doesn't jack up my jet!"
Drew: "Many years of shirtless volleyball to you too, buddy!" ^^;;;

Matthew will try to "turn and burn" our slumping fortunes with It's In the Bag:
  • Starbucks Frappucino coffee drinks (4×9.5 fl oz bottles)
  • Caress Daily Silk body wash (12 fl oz)
  • Hormel turkey chili with beans (15 oz)
  • Crisco canola oil (48 fl oz) to "wash it down with," sayeth Georgeth
  • Beech-Nut Classics baby food (4 oz)
  • Pet Armor flea & tick spray (16 fl oz)

...Drew, ol' buddy ol' pal. Going into this playing, Baggy carries with it a Season 43 record of one win, six losses, and six bailouts. I know you're just trying to put the contestants at ease when you say this, to remind them that this is still a winnable game despite how it looks, but how is that in any way "people winning this game all the time?" Anyhoo...

For once, the priciest bag isn't a dead giveaway; I could see someone thinking the flea spray belongs there, but I'm sticking to my guns on the Frappucinos. After that, $2.29 looks good for the chili, $4.29 for the body wash, and $5.29 for the aforementioned flea spray.

Well, then. XD This changes everything. After that, he's almost certainly got the chili, or so one would think...

Indeed! But now it gets dodgy. I'm not confident about the canola oil being $4.29, and there is no way the Frappucinos are $5.29 for a four-pack (not at two bucks apiece for individual bottles, most places I shop).

  3. 2015 Misubishi Mirage DE (1.2L, 5MT, Bluetooth; $13,805 [1]; JO)

...Just when I thought I was home free for the day, along comes this game with its frustrating policy of never quite revealing the values of the three big prizes. At least the car can be sussed out... and yeah, it's a serious cheapie.
